Analysts say U.S. President Trump's attempts to persuade other countries to help escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz might be helping riskier assets, although the situation remains uncertain and investors are still wary. Much of the recent gains in bitcoin simply reflect a modest recovery after its "miserable performance" early this year, taking it below $60,000 in early February, says Navellier & Associates' Louis Navellier. "The U.S. dollar and gold are the primary oasis for nervous investors," he says. Bitcoin rises 2.4% to $73,457, having earlier hit a high of $74,342, LSEG data show.
