The Core Lightning development team officially confirmed on Wednesday, via a post on X (formerly Twitter), that several vulnerabilities identified in an AI-generated security report are indeed present. The development team advised node operators to promptly verify and install the upcoming update, or, if an upgrade is not possible, to restart the node with the `--offline` flag instead of shutting it down. The reason we recommend using offline mode is due to the nature of Lightning channels. The Lightning Network processes payments outside of the Bitcoin blockchain and then settles them on the Bitcoin network when the channel is closed. When a node is completely turned off, it is unable to respond if the other party forcibly closes the channel.
